# Remly > Remly is a Mac app and cloud service that makes the files on your Mac and the > apps you connect searchable by meaning. Built by REMLY LLC. Contact: team@remly.it ## What Remly does - Search: semantic search across the files on your Mac and the apps you connect. Describe the document and Remly finds it by meaning, even when none of your words appear in it. - Ask: answers built from your own files and the sources Remly has indexed, with the sources attached. Grounded in your knowledge, not the open web. Slack is not part of this: it is live search only and is never indexed. - Indexing: background indexing that keeps connected sources current. No tagging, no folder system to maintain. - MCP: a Model Context Protocol server at https://mcp.remly.it/mcp exposing three tools – search, get_item, and get_context. search finds the passages that match a question by meaning, get_item pulls a specific file or message back in full, and get_context gathers the passages behind a question. Every result carries the source it came from, and the AI client you are using writes the answer. MCP search covers Google Drive, Notion, and any local Mac files you have chosen to sync to the cloud. ## How data is handled - Your files stay in place on your Mac and Remly does not keep copies. To make them searchable, text extracted from them is sent to Remly’s API to create embeddings; for images and scanned documents the image itself is sent so the text can be extracted. You choose per folder whether the derived index is kept local-only or synced to Remly’s cloud. When you use Ask over local files, excerpts and file paths are sent to Remly’s API and its AI provider to produce the answer. - Cloud-indexed content is stored encrypted at rest, and all connections are encrypted in transit over TLS. OAuth tokens carry an additional application-level encryption layer. The index that stays on your Mac is protected by your Mac’s own disk security when FileVault is enabled; there is no separate encryption layer on top of it there yet. - Slack is searched live at the moment you query it and is never indexed or stored. - Connectors are read-only: Remly never creates, edits, moves, sends, or deletes your content. Some connectors register a webhook with the provider so Remly learns when something changes. - Remly does not train AI models on your content, and neither does its AI provider. There is no setting that turns training on. - Results are filtered against the access information Remly imported from each source. That snapshot refreshes on the next sync, so a permission change at the source can take until then to appear in Remly. - Deleting your account ends access at once. The account and its indexed content are then held for 30 days, restorable by signing back in, and permanently deleted after that. Cloud deletion does not erase the index on your Mac. - Remly does not hold SOC 2 or ISO 27001 today (SOC 2 is on the roadmap), and is not HIPAA compliant. ## Plans - Lite: semantic search and answers across the files on your Mac. - Pro: everything in Lite, plus your connected apps, cloud library and sync across devices, and the MCP server. - Current prices: https://www.remly.it/pricing ## Who built Remly Remly is built by REMLY LLC.
